The Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) has an important role to play in the transport of Dangerous Goods. The Transport of Dangerous Goods regulations 2001 state that:

“ An undertaking the activities which include the transport, or the related loading or unloading, of dangerous goods by road or rail, shall appoint one or more safety advisers for the transport of dangerous goods, responsible for helping to prevent the risks inherent in such activities with regard to persons, property and the environment”

A DGSA must carry out the following duties:

  • truckMonitoring compliance with the rules governing the transport of dangerous goods.
  • Advising the employer on the transport of dangerous goods.
  • Preparing an annual report on the activities concerning dangerous goods.
  • Monitoring the procedures and practices on the transport of dangerous goods.
  • Investigating and preparing reports on any accidents or emergencies.

HAZARDOUS GOODS by SEA (IMDG)

Hazardous Goods by Sea (IMDG)Vast quantities of dangerous goods are transported by sea. Did you know that over 30% of all shipments transported by sea in UK and Ireland are found to be incorrect? Of these over half the errors were due to problems with segregation, labeling, packaging, documentation, and placarding. The regulations which cover transport of dangerous goods by sea are the IMDG code and are governed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
