UN Approved Package Testing
Goods which are classified as dangerous for transport by Road , Rail, Sea and Air range from those which are highly dangerous such as explosives to everyday products such as solvents, paints, pesticides and aerosols.
The transport of dangerous goods is regulated to ensure the safety of life, the aircraft, ship, vehicle and other cargo being transported such as food. It is therefore reasonable to expect enforceable regulations on the transport of dangerous goods.
One of the requirements for the transport of Dangerous Goods is that the packaging used is manufactured and tested to the specifications outlined in the transport regulations.
The performance tested and officially marked packaging used to transport dangerous goods, are referred to as “UN certified packaging”.
Packaging which is UN certified is required to be marked to show that it is certified. An example of a typical mark is shown below:
